A phone call from my daughter prompted this page. These are the six essential kinds of vinegar to keep in your pantry.

Distilled White Vinegar
Keep 1 Gallon or more on hand
Go grab a gallon (or two). It does everything from cooking to cleaning. Critical to an excellent sweet-n-sour sauce, for example.

Rice Vinegar (plain)
Keep 8oz or more on hand
Light and fresh. Needed for pot-sticker sauce, homemade salad dressing, and many Asian dishes.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Keep 1 Pint or more on hand
Used in many recipes and is the mainstay of my BBQ sauces, such as my Cider-Soy Sauce marinade.

Red Wine Vinegar
Keep 8oz or more on hand
You will see many recipes call for red wine vinegar. Also standard on salads, vegetables, and some soups.

Balsamic Vinegar
Keep 4oz or more on hand
Buy the best you can afford. If you buy high-quality, you will find it will go a long way. Prices range from $20 to over $160 for 4oz.

Sherry Vinegar
Keep 8oz or more on hand
Use it instead of White Wine Vinegar. Great on salads and soups. More hearty flavor than white wine vinegar.
