Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups distilled water
  • 2 cups sugar

Instructions
 

To make simple syrup:

  • Combine equal parts sugar and water (e.g., 1 cup of each) in a saucepan.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool completely.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Notes

For a thicker syrup, use a 2:1 ratio of sugar to water.
You can also flavor your syrup with vanilla (use a whole bean or 1 tsp of vanilla bean paste), lemon (1/2 tsp extract), peppers, or whatever you want.
